What to Pack for a Cruise

Are you planning to take a cruise in the near future? If so, you might be wondering what you should pack. Sometimes, it’s difficult to sort through what you’ll actually need. Let’s take a closer look at what to pack for your voyage.

Casual and Formal Attire, Including Vacation Dresses

When packing for your cruise, you’ll want to pack a mix of casualwear and formal attire. For women, you’ll want to bring vacation dresses that you can wear at the beach and on the ship. Both men and women will want to pack casual shorts, t-shirts, and tank tops.

It’s also ideal to pack some formal attire as well. Most cruises offer at least one formal night. Women might want to consider packing a nice dress or even a ballgown. Men will want to bring a nice pair of trousers, a button-up shirt, and a suit jacket. If you plan to spend time in the formal dining room rather than the casual buffet, you’ll want to pack some semi-casual clothing.

Activewear

It’s important to take a closer look at the cruise destinations you’ve chosen and what they have to offer. What types of excursions are offered? Will you be doing any hiking, horseback riding, or other physical activity? Does the location you’re traveling to require a lot of walking? If so, you’ll want to pack activewear and a comfortable pair of sneakers.

Footwear

In addition to comfortable sneakers, you’ll want to include a few other types of shoes on your cruise packing list. This includes a pair of heels or dressy shoes for formal or semi-casual attire. A pair of flip-flops or sandals can be worn around the ship, at the pool, and at the beach. You might also want to consider packing a pair of rubber water shoes for rocky swimming areas or coral reefs.

Bathing Suits and Towels

You’ll want to pack bathing suits for the beach and pool. Women might want to consider packing a cover-up for the beach. Although the cruise line will provide towels, it’s best to bring some of your favorite beach towels.

Sun Protection

It’s essential to pack sunscreen when you take a cruise. You might consider taking aloe gel or whatever your preferred sunburn remedy is.

It’s also ideal for bringing sunglasses and hats to protect yourself from the sun.

Luggage

When packing for a cruise, it’s best not to overpack. There’s not a whole lot of space in the staterooms. In fact, it’s important to choose the right luggage. Cabin closets typically aren’t large enough for suitcases, and there might not be enough space to leave luggage out in the open. Your best bet is to find luggage that’s longer (rather than wide), so it can fit underneath the beds.

Medication

If you take medications, this is something you definitely won’t want to forget to pack for your cruise.

Anyone who’s planning to take a cruise will want to bring medication for seasickness. Although you can purchase over-the-counter medications, you might consider asking your doctor for a prescription seasickness medication. The last thing you want is to be out at sea and find yourself extremely sick to your stomach.

Chargers and Adapters

You might think that packing your chargers will be enough for your cruise, but this isn’t always the case. Although some cruise lines are equipped with American chargers, that’s not the case with all cruise lines. It’s important to check before your trip or simply bring adapters with you just to be prepared.

These are just some of the things you’ll want to pack when you take a cruise. It’s important to pay attention to the CDC’s guidelines for COVID-19 and other ship advisories.
