Glimpse at Ten Tiny Breaths by KA Tucker and a first-look at my next book!

19 Dec

Hey everyone!

Holy cow!  Can you believe there’s only six days until Christmas??  And me without my shopping done. Sigh.

I wanted to share a couple of things with you today– so excited about both!

First, my awesome friend K.A. Tucker just released an amazing book.  I haven’t read it entirely yet because I’ve been buried in my writing cave, but I’ve looked through it- and it looks amazing.  It must be- because as of this post, it is ranked at #73 on Amazon.  That’s HUGE.   Check it out….

Ten Tiny Breaths

TEN TINY BREATHS Synopsis:

Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.

But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

**Warning – This is a Mature YA/New Adult book. Contains sex and violence**

About the Author:

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.

I had the pleasure of getting to know K.A. at the Decatur book festival this summer and she is truly an amazing person- hilarious and sweet.  You should definitely look her up and get to know her.  You won’t regret it!

Confessions of an Alli Cat is AVAILABLE! Yayyyy!

25 Oct

Confessions of an Alli Cat (Book One in the Cougar Chronicles) is available today on Amazon!!  Yayyyyy.  It will be available on Barnes and Noble soon.

So, in honor of Early Release Day, here is the last Teaser for Alli:

********

I fill our glasses back up with the last of the wine and we sit back, our heads leaned together. Sara picks up her leg and starts counting the stars with her toe.

“You’d better stay here tonight,” I tell her.  “You shouldn’t drive.”

“You’ve got that right, sister,” she mumbles.

I can tell from her super relaxed face that I need to get her out of the hot tub, pronto, before she falls asleep. And that is what leads to the fact that I am hoisting her naked body out of the water when Mr. Darnell goes into his backyard to take his trash out.

At this point in the day, I don’t even care.  I just wave over my shoulder, ignoring his flabbergasted expression, as I help Sara into my house.

We’re both naked and dripping wet.

This day just can’t get any worse.

And nobody should ever say that.  Because what always happens when they do?

Things get worse.

That’s right.

Well, not exactly worse, but definitely uncomfortable. And slightly hilarious (in hindsight).

Sigh.

Because I was so tired, after I dropped Sara onto one side of my bed and covered her up, I laid down for just a second on the other side.  For just for one second.

But apparently, when two people split four bottles of wine, it does something to their sense of time.  Because when I open my eyes, it is morning and Sophie is standing over me.

“’Morning, honey,” I mumble.  She raises an eyebrow.

“I guess it is,” she says. “But not as good as last night, apparently.  Why are you and Aunt Sara naked together in your bed?”

Eff.

I sit straight up and look at Sara.  She is sleeping soundly, snoring softly, with drool pooling on my expensive brushed Egyptian cotton sheets.

And she is naked.

And I am naked.

I sigh.

“Obviously, it’s not what it looks like,” I tell Sophie as I jab Sara in the ribs.

“Of course not,” Sophie giggles, as she turns to walk out of the room.  “Have a good day, mom.  I just came by to pick up my math book.  You’d better hurry. You’re going to be late for work.”

I look at the clock and then leap from the bed, yanking all of Sara’s covers off in the process.

I only have fifteen minutes to get ready.  Efffffffff.

“Sara!” I yell as I head for the bathroom. “Get up.  We’re late.”

She sits up and looks around bewilderedly.  “Did we get drunk and drive to Vegas and get married?”

I laugh as I start the shower.  “You’re half right.  We got drunk, you cussed out Rick the Dick and then called my new boss a Tiny Dick.  And we live in Vegas.”

She looks shocked, then she smiles at me.  “You’re just lucky your best friend is such a bad ass.”

I sigh.

“Get your bad ass in Sophie’s shower.  We’re going to be late.”

She laughs and stumbles down the hall as I jump in the shower and try to figure out how I’m going to look Alex in the face today.

Alli is available now on Amazon.  You can find it here.  It will be available on B&N soon.  I really, really hope you like it.

Teaser #3: Confessions of an Alli Cat

23 Oct

Rawwrrrr, folks!  It’s time for another teaser from the first book of the Cougar Chronicles:  Confessions of an Alli Cat.   And yes.  That was my impression of a cougar’s roar.  I also found cute little cougar pawprints to use while texting.  I’m driving my friends crazy.  I answer everything with cougar paws. Hehe.  I’m easily amused.

But anyway.

Gearing up for the release on Sunday (yayyyyy!), here is the third teaser for Confessions of an Alli Cat.  This excerpt shows Alli and her devil of a BFF, Sara, at lunch.    I should remind you that this book is not YA.  It has adult content and themes, so if you’re not a mature adult, you probably shouldn’t continue reading this excerpt.

I lean over my turkey club and shove my face into hers.  She’s startled for a second, but then she peers into mine, her eyes staring into my own.

“What exactly am I looking for?” she asks as she examines me.

“My crow’s feet,” I answer.  “How bad are they?  Rick the Dick was at my house this weekend and among other things, he mentioned that I have horrible crow’s feet.  Do I?”

She turns my face to and fro in the light.

“They’re there,” she announces. “But they’re not horrible.  Rick is a dick.  Obviously.  You’re thirty-five.  You’re going to have laugh lines.  We laugh a lot. It’s unavoidable.”

Sara picks her sandwich back up and chomps on it, unconcerned.

“Is it?” I answer thoughtfully, staring into space.  “Have you ever tried Botox?”

Sara almost chokes and I whomp her on her back.  I briefly remember the Brazilian wax incident and whomp a little harder than necessary.  Then I smile evilly. Whomping her thin little back is surprisingly satisfying.

“Are you serious?” she chokes out, wiping her mouth on a napkin as she shoves my hand away.  “You’re not getting Botox.  You know what that is, right?  It’s the bacteria that causes botulism.  It’s a freaking toxin.”

“Oh, I know,” I tell her.  “And I’m not getting Botox.  We are.”

She chokes again.

“No.  If you think that… no.”  She stares at me as firmly as she can, looking down her skinny nose at me.  Her short red hair looks like it has even raised up in mutiny against me, as well.  I smile.

“Oh, yes,” I tell her.  “I dated a gigolo, had sex with the gigolo, bought a sex toy and had a Brazilian wax.  All at your behest.  And I have to admit, those were good ideas.  You’re going to have to concede that sometimes I have good ideas too. I’m pretty sure that this is one of those times.”

She is stammering now.  Utterly speechless.  I’m definitely going to have to mark this on the calendar.

“But… but… botulism is a bacteria.  Injected into my face!  That’s different than…”

“Different than a stranger’s penis injected into my vagina?” I ask innocently. Sara all but sputters.

“No, but you liked it!”

“Of course I liked it!” I stare at her like she’s grown two heads. “That penis is attached to a perfect twenty-something body.  And I’m sure that you will like the Botox, as well.  You’ve got crow’s feet too, you know. I’ve never wanted to say anything before.  But you might as well know.  We could both use an age-eraser. And that’s exactly what Botox is.  And supposedly, it doesn’t even hurt.”

“You’re the devil,” Sara announces as she cleans up her lunch trash.

“Irrelevant,” I answer sweetly, throwing her words from the other day back at her.  “And you’re a devil, too.  That’s why we love each other so much.   I’ll make the appointment.”

“I can’t do it tonight,” she snaps. “I have Spinning.”

“That’s fine,” I say soothingly. “I’m sure they have openings for tomorrow night.”

Sara flounces off, but not before glaring at me a couple of times for good measure.  She turns and flips me off with both hands when she’s halfway to her car.  Both hands—because she means business.  I laugh and the elderly lady sitting next to us gasps.

I lean over. “I’m sorry about that, m’am.”

But I’m really not.  It feels good to get one over on Sara for once in my life.  It’s been a long time coming.

Please watch for Confessions of an Alli Cat to release on Sunday, October 28th.  (THIS Sunday).

Also, the lovely Autumn from Autumn Review has posted an early review of Alli’s story on her adult blog, Autumn After Dark.  Check it out!  :)

Teaser #2: Confessions of an Alli Cat

19 Oct

Happy Friday!

I thought I would celebrate the end of the workweek with Teaser #2 from my upcoming book, Confessions of an Alli Cat.  In this excerpt, Alli’s devil-of-a-best-friend, Sara, has talked Alli into hiring a male companion to ease her transition back into the dating world.

Teaser #2:

Holy freaking Hell.

I’m internally having a panic attack because I’ve never been blind-folded before.  And here I am, letting a male prostitute blindfold me and lead me away to his sex nest.

“Breathe, Allison,” the beautiful male prostitute tells me in my ear.  His voice is husky and rich, like hot caramel or warm maple syrup…or even better, like melted chocolate.  I swallow, instantly hungry and turned on at the same time.

“Okay,” I agree, trying to force my traitorous lungs to fill with air.

They are having none of it though and I gasp like an idiot, even though the blindfold is velvet and satin.  It’s hardly uncomfortable, but it still makes me anxious.   What is waiting for me that they need to blind me for?  Weird whips and chains?  Hand cuffs and ben wah balls?

Holy freaking hell.

I am practically panting when I hear a door being unlocked with the swipe of a card.  I hear it click and then a doorknob turning.  Then I am being gently pulled into the sex nest.

Oh my god.

Oh my god.

What have I done?

I’m in a freaking sex nest!

I’m too old for this shit.

Then the blindfold is taken off.

And I am surrounded by luxury.   By heavy, expensive furniture. By thick and cushiony duvet covers and pillows.  By opulent decorations in crystal and mahogany.  By sheer normalcy in this room.  Sheer. Freaking. Normalcy.  I’m shocked.

And I must look it, because Shade turns to me and laughs.

“What?” he grins.  “Were you expecting something else?”

“Yes,” I admit.  “I don’t know what.  But not this.”

“Perhaps this?” Shade suggests and pushes a button on the wall.  A door on the ceiling slides silently open and a sex swing drops down, dangling at the edge of the bed.

I gulp as I realize that it looks like a noose… a noose that I’m probably going to hang myself with.

“Maybe,” I answer.

I examine it closer.  It’s terrifying.  It looks like a contraption of torture, like something out of Morticia and Gomez Addams’ bedroom.  The harness is lined with cushiony velvet.  But it still doesn’t look comfortable. And maybe not even legal.  I gulp again.

Shade laughs again.

“Nervous?”

I nod.

“Don’t be,” he tells me, his voice buttery smooth.  He moves closer to me and I unconsciously step back.  He grins again. And I suddenly feel like a lion and its prey. “We don’t have to use it.  Yet.”

********

Poor Alli.  Sara’s always talking her into something.  :)

Anyway, you can bookmark Confessions of an Alli Cat on Goodreads  and it releases for purchase on Sunday, Oct 28th.  Yay!

Also, just a note to anyone who won a prize pack from my blog tours last week:  This week has been bananas.  I’ll get them mailed out next week.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!   Be good!  Or not– that’s entirely up to you.  :)

Teaser Excerpt from Confessions of an Alli Cat

17 Oct

Hi there, Happy Hump Day!

So, since Confessions of an Alli Cat is releasing on October 28, I thought I’d release a few excerpts this week and next.   And I had to laugh– as I was skimming the book, looking for excerpts to use, it was difficult to find some that weren’t inappropriate for use on my website.  Omgosh.  But anyway.  I did find a few and here is the first one:

“You look marvelous!” Sara says when I round the corner into the bedroom.

“I feel ridiculous.”

“Why?  We are simply two wealthy women with trophy boy toys out for a night on the town at one of Vegas’s most luxurious night spots.  Nothing to feel ridiculous about.”

“I’m dressed like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, only without the body for it,” I say, indicating my short, tight dress.  “How did I let you talk me into buying this?”

“Well, I thought it might help things with Rick the Dick many moons ago, but this is an even better use.  Besides, you look mouthwatering.”

Standing up, she walks to me.  She trails the fingertips of one hand down my cheek.

“A beautiful face,” she says, dragging her hands down to palm my boobs next.  She gives them a squeeze.  “Delicious rack,” she declares then grabs my waist and spins me around.  “And a perfect ass,” she exclaims, slapping my butt.  “You are gorgeous and any man in his right mind would give his left nut to lick you from head to toe and everywhere in between.”

“I think you secretly have the hots for me,” I laugh.  “Maybe I should be going out with you instead.”

“Oh, you flatter!  If either of us swung that way, we’d be perfect together.  But, alas, I’m a sausage lover, as are you.  No tacos for us.”

I can’t help but laugh.  “Have you always been this way and I’m just now noticing?”

“Yes.  You’ve been preoccupied for a few years.”

“I’m beginning to really love this new you.  Even if she shocks me regularly and gets me into trouble more often than not.”

“You love it and you know it.  I add much-needed excitement to your life,” Sara claims, walking to the mirror to touch up her lipstick.

“Did I tell you I love that hair style on you, too?”  I ask, referring to her dark red pixie cut.  She totally has the face to pull it off.

“Keep going like that and I’m yours.”

We both laugh.

“Well, I guess I’m ready.”  I add under my breath, “At least as ready as I’ll ever be.”

“Then it’s time to go.”

My stomach flutters in dread and anxiety and, yes, a little bit of excitement.  I take a deep breath and smile at Sara.  She loops her arms through mine and grins.

“Welcome to the first night of the rest of your life.”

We make our way outside and down the walk to the curb, to the shiny black limousine waiting there.  The ride is only twenty minutes or so, during which I drink champagne in the back of the limo at a rate of speed that would make a sailor proud.

When we glide to a stop at the club, I follow Sara out of the car.

And the man waiting for me nearly takes my breath away.

He’s taller than I imagined and much broader than I expected.  His shoulders look a mile wide in his perfectly-tailored tuxedo, making his waist look smaller than mine.  His hair is dark brown and his eyes are the same dark, sparkling blue as they are in his picture.

He’s young, all right.  But there is nothing boyish about this guy.  Not at all.

As I step from the car, he extends his hand toward me.  I slip my fingers into his and he smiles.  I’m pretty sure my knees go numb and my uterus has a spasm.  But it’s when he speaks that I know it’s all over but the shouting. And the Hallelujah choir.

“You’re more beautiful than I could’ve imagined,” he purrs in a deep, velvety voice.

Yep, I’m gonna ride him like a runaway bull tonight. No two ways about it.

The thought makes me smile.

If you missed it, you can read the blurb for the book here.  And you can mark it to read on Goodreads here.  It will release on October 28.  I really hope you like it.  :)

Of Blood and Bone: Excerpt Two

6 Sep

Okay- first things first.  The man that I posted yesterday, the man who is taped onto my storyboard as Luca from my upcoming book Of Blood and Bone…his name is Alexandre Verga.    Thank you to everyone who responded!  I so appreciate having a name now.   I looked up Alexandre’s other pictures and in some of them, he looks like Luca and in some, he doesn’t look like him at all.  But the important thing, is that in this picture, he’s Luca through and through.  So. Freaking.  Hot.  Whew!  I need a fan.

Second, if I can steal your attention away from the beautiful man in front of you (haha) then it’s time for the second Thursday Teaser for Of Blood and Bone.  Woot!

This teaser is from Eva’s point of view.  It is a dark night and she is speaking with Luca in his study. (Chessarae is his home, a large estate on the shore of Malta).

* * *

“Can you start at the beginning?” I ask.  He nods.

And so he tells me of life at Chessarae.  Of being a child here, with a mother who was distant and detached and a father who was never home.  Luca knows why now, because Nicolas was increasingly confined to the cave in the maze, more and more as his life progressed.  But since the Minaldis do not speak of their curse, not even to each other, he didn’t understand as a boy.  He felt abandoned and alone.

Luca Minaldi may be confident and powerful on the outside, but on the inside he is a broken little boy.  And with each word that comes from his mouth, from his perfectly formed lips, I feel my heart constrict just a little more until it is difficult for me to speak, to ask him questions.

“When did you understand what was happening to you?” I ask.   It’s hard to formulate sound around the lump that has swelled in my throat.

“I always knew,” he answers, quiet in this large room.  He gets up and pours us each a glass of Scotch, moving fluidly. He takes a gulp of his and I grip my cold glass tightly.

“I always knew.  My mother told me at a very young age that there was something wrong with me, that I was a monster like my father.   My brothers and I had a nurse who stayed with us in our wing.  If we showed signs of sleepwalking or something similar, she was instructed to tie our hands to our bed and not allow us to leave until it had passed. As time went on, it was clear that it only afflicted me.  My brothers were normal.”

A tear slips from the corner of my eye now as I picture Luca as a boy, terrified and alone in the darkness of his room, tied to his enormous bed.

“Luca… I…”

I can’t speak any more.  The words won’t come.  And another tear slips down my cheek.  My eyes are hot and burning, so I close them.

* * *

So, there you have it!  I’ll be back next week with another teaser. I’ll have one a week until September 30,  which is the release date.   The week prior to that, I will release the entire first chapter.  Woohoo!  I hope you like it.  You can mark Of Blood and Bone as to-read on Goodreads here.

Have a lovely Thursday!
