M. Leighton’s Until I Break

15 May

So…. my friend M. Leighton just released a fabulous new book.  It’s dark.  It’s edgy. It’s sexy.  If you like those things, then you should definitely check out Until I Break.  Because it’s awesome.  And so is M. Leighton.

Check it out:

“I’m intrigued. Tempted beyond what I’ve ever been before. To know her, to open her up. To break her.”

In love, sometimes what you fear most is exactly what you need.

Laura Drake is an author. She writes bestselling paranormal romances that continue to top the charts. She is sharp. She is confident. She is in control.

And she doesn’t exist.

Samantha Jansen is the woman behind the wig, the woman most of the world doesn’t know exists. She is shy. She is insecure. She is nothing like her main character or her alter ego. She is scarred—deeply scarred—by a past she can’t let go of and a present she can’t make peace with.

Samantha’s dreams are consumed by one man, the broken hero from her books. Mason Strait is both her wildest fantasy and her most terrifying nightmare.

When Samantha meets Alec Brand, a corporate consultant, it is as though Mason has come to life. Alec is handsome to a fault, as elegant as he is arrogant, and more intense than any man has a right to be.

Samantha is soon sucked into a world that mirrors the fiction she writes. Just like her main character, Daire Kirby, Samantha finds herself unable to resist the forbidden lure of Alec. And just like Daire, she also finds that she is faced with taking a chance on a man who could either set her free or destroy her.

The scale tilts toward destruction when Samantha finds out that Alec is as much a work of fiction as Mason. And he has scars of his own, scars that could ruin them both.

Sounds good, right?   I know it is— I’ve read it.  Woot!   If you’d like to check it out, you can find it on Amazon HERE and B&N HERE.

Happy reading!

Kristen Proby’s Rock With Me

3 May

You guys, if you follow my blog, you know my faves.

And so you know that Kristen Proby (Author of the With Me in Seattle series) is one of my favest faves. ß No, that’s not a real term, but it seemed appropriate anyway.  I’m super excited to have her on my blog today!!

Kristen, you know I love all of your characters.  You have a special way of bringing your characters to life so that they practically leap off the page and make out with me.  Well, that’s what it feels like anyway.  (Your steamy scenes are HAWT!)  Tell me… what are your favorite things about Leo and Sam?

Kristen: First of all, you’re my favest fave too. J I love it that you make out with my characters. My favorite things about Leo and Sam… well, I love how Leo just seems to “get” Sam. He’s patient, biding his time for her, and once they’re in, they’re IN.

As I mentioned, you write the steamiest of steam.  I think Molly McAdams called you the Queen of Sex, right?  So, tell me… where do you get your inspiration for the delicious sex scenes that you write?

Kristen:  HAHA! Yes, Molly calls me the Queen of Sex, which makes me laugh. I enjoy writing love scenes because for my characters, the sex is as much a part of their story as anything else. I think it shows intimacy. It’s when any of us are at our most vulnerable. The inspiration for the scenes? I’m not sure… I just go with what the characters want to do. J

Who is your favorite book-boyfriend of all time?  (It can be from your book or someone else’s).

Kristen: This is easy for me. Roarke from JD Robb’s In Death series.

If you were stuck on a wounded cruise ship out in the middle of the Caribbean, what three things will you have in your purse to make your life better?   Knowing you as I do, my mind just went into the gutter.  You’ll have to forgive me for that….

Kristen: You DO know me! LMAO! Um… lip balm, gum and sunglasses. What? Don’t judge me.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

Kristen: My favorite movie of all time is The Goonies.

I love that one too!! Okay—you and I are both attending the Naughty Mafia Rocks Vegas event in August (yayyyy!).  We wake up in a jail cell there one morning.  Tell me… how did we get there?

Kristen: LOL! Oh, the possibilities are endless, my friend. I think it involved a lot of liquor and perhaps some of the Thunder Down Under guys.

Oh my.  You’re probably right.  Kristen, thank you so much for being here with me today.  I loved your book, Rock with Me, just like I love ALL of your books.  You’re talented and amazing- and I’m so happy to call you my friend.  <3

Kristen: Thank you for having me! You are wonderful and I so appreciate you. I’m proud to be your friend, my sweet! xo

If you haven’t checked out any of Kristen’s books, now is a good time because her latest With Me in Seattle book, Rock with Me, just came out.

Alessandra Thomas- Picture Perfect

26 Mar

Hey guys,

I’m sorry that I’ve been MIA lately. I’ve been buried in my writing cave.  But I have a treat for you today.  Alessandra Thomas has a new book out, Picture Perfect.  And it looks super good. Check it out:

Picture Perfect - High Resolution

PICTURE PERFECT Synopsis:

Fashion design major Cat Mitchell has a closet full of gorgeous clothes – and not a single thing fits. After two years of runway modeling for easy cash, an accident shattered her lower leg bone and her self-esteem in just one swift fall. Ten months of no exercise, prescription steroids, comfort eating and yoga pants meant returning to campus as a size twelve instead of her former size two. When her gorgeous long-time friend with benefits sees her for the first time after her accident and snubs her in front of all her friends, Cat’s self-image hits rock bottom. Her sorority sisters all insist that she looks gorgeous, but all Cat sees is the roll of her stomach when she sits down, or the dimpling at the back of her thighs that wasn’t there last year. Cat’s therapist prescribes something radical to stop the downward spiral – nude modeling for a nearby college’s human form drawing classes. When Cat faces her fears and bares it all for the class, she realizes that she’s posing naked in front the most gorgeous, buffest guy she’s ever seen in her life. He asks her out after the class, and after one steamy night together, Cat’s absolutely smitten.

Nate’s pretty close to perfect – he takes Cat rock climbing when he discovers that it makes her feel strong and becomes a great chef after he learns that the perfect pesto sauce makes her swoon. Cat starts to feel like her old self again – confident and beautiful – as long as Nate’s around. Even when he discourages her from entering the Real Woman Project, a design competition for plus-sized apparel, she reasons that he’s just trying to prevent old body image wounds from splitting wide open again. But when Cat goes home with Nate for Thanksgiving, she discovers something shocking from his recent past that proves that he hasn’t always been so encouraging of women of all shapes and sizes. Cat has no idea what to think, but she does know one thing – this might destroy their relationship before it’s even had a chance to get off the ground.

Before Cat can figure out whether the real Nate is the sensitive, adoring guy she fell in love with, or an undercover asshole, she’ll have to finally feel comfortable in her own skin – even if it means leaving him forever.

You can find it here on Amazon and here on B&N.  I’m adding it to my TBR pile right now– it looks amazing.

NA – What’s all the Fuss about?

By Alessandra Thomas

When I heard that Courtney wanted me to answer “New Adult – What’s All the Fuss About?”  I realized just how strange it is that publishing/readers didn’t realize just how awesome this genre is a long time ago.  There are so many uniquely awesome things about New Adult characters and plots.

There’s a different kind of responsibility

New Adult characters usually have a greater sense of perspective than those in YA, but more innocence than adults. A lot of times, they have to make adult decisions, but they feel like kids, which is relatable to many of us. Much of the teen drama and angst of high school is gone, but at the same time, the societal expectations of “being a grownup” aren’t in fully force for characters aged 18-24.

College is the first time people are figuring out who they are outside of contained peer pressure. It’s just plain fascinating to watch what characters are going to do when they’re virtually free of social pressures and constraints of their hometown. They could literally turn into anyone.

In some ways, the stakes are higher. No one’s there to automatically catch you when you fall, and the point is to learn to navigate life on your own – and everyone’s learning.

There’s a different kind of freedom

If the characters have sex, the author doesn’t have to close the door in the reader’s face. There’s been a lot of discussion about whether New Adult is “just” sexed-up YA. That’s certainly not all it is, but it is kind of nice that if it feels natural or fitting for characters to be doing the Deed, we don’t have to shut the door or gloss over the details because the target audience are minors.

If you’re talking New Adult romance, the subgenre I write, a Happily Ever After ending  doesn’t have to consist of marriage or moving in together. The commitment can be less intense because people usually don’t move in with or get married to their college boyfriends or girlfriends.

…And then there’s total freedom.

If your NA protagonists are in college, they don’t have to answer to anyone but themselves on a day to day basis. If they live away from home, there are no parents to answer to, no curfews to obey. Usually, there are no children to take care of. The most responsibility someone aged 18-24 has is usually a roommate or a pet.

For readers, it’s an age group sweet spot.

A lot of adults love YA because it makes them feel younger and nostalgic for a time when emotions were so raw and things were perhaps simpler, yet the possibilities of what a character could do with her life were basically endless. But those same adults may feel creepy reading about high school relationships – specifically, swooning over minor “book boyfriends.” After all, the love interests in YA are usually sixteen and seventeen-year-old boys.  And, to be honest, adults often don’t like to admit that their favorite books are children’s, especially when they’re trading book recs with snobbier peer friends.  Teens are often curious to read about what their lives and relationships might be like in the next phase of life, and for new-adult aged readers, reading about their peers feels just right.

I guess what I’m saying is that New Adult represents a whole range of human experience – being in that in-between of after high school but before 9-5 jobs and families – that readers are hungry to visit or revisit. I’m so glad that I’m one of the authors writing it, and that readers are loving the rise in the trend.

There you have it!   Thanks for being here today, Alessandra!

M. Leighton is in the house!

21 Jan

Okay.  So if you follow my blog, you know that M. Leighton is my BFF and I love, love, LOVE her.  But aside from my personal feelings, I can tell you that she is a fabulous, amazing author.  AND, I realized the other day that I don’t think I’ve ever interviewed her for my blog.  What the heck?  So, she’s gracious enough to be here today so that I can probe her genius brain.

Me:  M, I think it’s safe to say that you are best known for your Bad Boys series (Down to You and Up to Me) and The Wild Ones.  Do you have a favorite?  Do any of your books hold a special place in your heart for a particular reason?  (I personally still love your Blood Like Poison series.  Oh, Bo.  *sighs*)

M:  hehe I love me some Bo, too!!  Actually, I love all my leading men.  To me, they’re all yummy in their own way.  Cash and Nash are certainly no exception.  Whew!  *fans self*  But if we’re strictly talking ones that hold a special place, I think I’d have to say Hardy from Fragile.  For some reason, he really got his claws into my heart.  Then again, they all do at some point or another.  LOL  That’s one of the best things about this job, a job which is also known as THE BEST JOB EVER!

Me:  My husband is an identical twin.  So when you first told me your idea for The Bad Boys series, I was super-excited.  And you pulled it off in a big, big way.  What gave you the idea for that story?

M:  It came to me as I was actually writing the brothers.  I thought how cool it would be if Olivia’s dream man was split into two physically identical people.  And then…not.

Me:  What is your idea of the perfect day?

M:  A morning spent spilling out tons of wonderful words onto “paper” followed by lunch and shopping, then topping it off with a calming drink, a great dinner, a decadent dessert and a movie with my hubby.  Sprinkle in some family and friends and I think it just doesn’t get much better than that.  Unless it’s summer and there’s a grill and the beach involved.  But that’s a whole other perfect day;)

Me:  Here’s the setting:  You and I wake up in a Las Vegas jail (Hey, we’re going there in August.  It could happen).  How did we get there?

M: It all started with JoJo the stripper and his pet ostrich named Flamingo.  Evidently speeding tickets are not reserved to modes of transportation that possess wheels AND it’s strictly forbidden to race ostriches in downtown Vegas.  Who knew?

Me:  Tell us a fun fact that people don’t know about you.

M:  I couldn’t remember the name of a pecan until I was, like, six or seven. I called them “bald nuts.”

Me:  Do you have a favorite mantra?

M:  Next book!  Next book!  It keeps me from resorting to drastic measures when the stress gets high.

Me:  I know that’s true… you tell me that all the time!  Lol.  Can you tell us what you’re working on now?

M: Actually, I’m writing the third book in The Bad Boys series.  And I am LOVING it so far!

Me:  Eeeep!!  Tha’ts going to make SO MANY PEOPLE excited!!!  And last but not least, a few quick questions:

Black or white?  Black.  Always black.

Coffee or tea?   Coffee.  Tea?  Ack!

Chocolate or strawberry?  Chocolate unless the strawberry is dipped in chocolate, but I think that’s sort of cheating.

Coach or Gucci?  Gucci, but my budget is strictly Coach

Sunshine or rain? OMG sunshine!  Sunshine! Sunshine!!!

Vampire Diaries or Walking Dead?  The Walking Dead. I hate love triangles!

M, Thank you for being here today.  I heart you forever and ever!

M:  Thank you for having me, my wonderful friend!  I adore you above all others!  :)

*******

Okay… now if you haven’t taken a peek at Up To Me (book two in the Bad Boys series) yet, here’s your chance!  Check it out:

Up to Me

Happily ever after doesn’t come easy.  But for love, it’s always worth the fight.

Olivia finds bliss unlike any she’s ever known in Cash’s arms.  He sets her skin on fire and melts her heart right inside her chest.  Unfortunately, their happily ever after is short-lived when a shadow from Cash’s past threatens to turn their world upside down.

Dangerous people from his father’s world have discovered that Cash holds information that could put them away for a very long time.  And they’re willing to do anything—and hurt anybody—to get it back.  Giving it up means Cash must choose between the life of his father and the life of Olivia.

Having nearly overcome her wariness of bad boys, Olivia’s trust is shaken when this new threat arises.  Now she finds that Cash is not only a danger to her heart, but his family has associations that are a danger to her life as well.  She soon discovers that there are some situations in life where trust is a girl’s only option.  And this is one of them.  If she’s to live, she must trust Cash with her life.  But to Olivia, that’s much, much easier than letting go and trusting him with her heart.

And an excerpt!

He squeezes me and presses his lips to my shoulder.  I can barely feel them through the lapel of my robe.

“Can I take this off you?” he breathes.  “I want to feel your skin against mine.”

A pang of desire zings through me at the thought of him holding my naked body against his.  It was only a few hours ago that we had sex for the fifth time today, but it feels like an eternity ago. So much has happened since then, so many emotions have come and gone, that it feels…different.

“Yes,” I whisper in response, answering him before my mind can talk me out of it.

I start to sit up, but Cash stops me.  He leans up on one elbow and pulls my hair away from my face and neck, bending to press his lips against the soft skin beneath my ear.

“Let me.”

OMG, I have Kristen Proby on my blog!!

18 Jan

Okay. So if you have read Come Away With Me or Fight With Me, you will be as excited as I am when you hear that I have Kristen Proby on my blog today!!  *squeals and claps like a kid*    I love, love this girl.  She’s fabulous and I’m so happy that we’ve become friends.  Anyway. Without further ado or fangirling…. Kristen Proby, folks!!

Hi Kristen!   I’m so excited to have you here today!!!  I can’t wait to ask you a bunch of invasive, nosy questions.  *bounces up and down*

Ahem.  *straightens clothing and gets control of self*  Okay.  I love, love the cover for Fight With Me.  Did you know exactly what you wanted in designing that, or did you let your cover artist take the reins?

Kristen:  First, thank you so much for asking me to be a guest on your website! What a thrill. I’m a total fan-girl. I loved Confessions of an Alli Cat (loved it HARD) and must say this is so exciting! J  Okay, down to business. *ahem* The cover is beautiful, isn’t it? Rachel Marks is the lovely genius that came up with it. I knew that it had to look intimate, because Nate and Jules have some crazy chemistry, and I really, really wanted to include Nate’s tat. ‘Cause he’s HOT! ;-) The only thing that is not so much Nate is his hair. My Nate has longer hair, but the model in the photo used for the cover did not. But Rachel had to hand-draw that tat on, and for that alone, I bow to her. She did a great job!

She hand-drew that tatooo? OMG.  I didn’t know that.  That’s awesome!

I see that you live in Washington.  What a gorgeous state!  I personally love the rain, so I wouldn’t mind that part one bit.  If you could live anywhere other than WA, where would it be and why?

Kristen: I’m originally from Northwest Montana, and most of my family is still there, so I’d probably say that I would like to move home to be closer to family. In my own private fantasy-land, I would love to live somewhere that the sun shines 90% of the time, the median temp is roughly 75 degrees, and there are no big bugs because I’m pretty sure all bugs are trying to kill me.

I think all bugs ARE trying to kill us.  No lie.  What’s a day in the life of Kristen Proby like?   Do you wear your pajamas as you write?  (I personally wear Yoga pants).  Do you drink coffee or tea?    Do you listen to music while you write?  Etc.

Kristen:  Typical day… so not glamorous. LOL! I get up and take my kids to school (in my pajamas) then come home and get the coffee ready. I settle in to spend a couple hours interacting with readers on social media and answering email, and also participate in a morning writing sprint with my buddies, A.L. Jackson and Molly McAdams. That gets the creative juices flowing. (I’m still in my pajamas.) I try to write a minimum of six hours a day. I usually turn Pandora on to the Maroon5 channel and just let it play in the background. Then, I head out to pick up the kids and take them to various sporting activities, etc. I’m very lucky in that my husband is a chef, and enjoys cooking at home as well, so I rarely have dinner duty. Oh, I do end up showering and dressing somewhere in there too. LOL  See? So not glamorous.

I’m not glamorous either.  In fact, if I manage a shower before mid-afternoon, I’m doing great.  Haha.  Are you a pantser like me or are you a plotter, when it comes to your books?  I personally outline only one chapter at a time.  I kind of have to see where my characters seem to want to go.  But I have friends who outline every minute detail before they even start.  How do you do it?

Kristen: Well, it depends on how the story is going. At the very beginning, I sit down knowing who the characters are, what they do, how they meet, etc. Then a couple chapters in, I start plotting out what I want to happen in the coming chapters. What the main plot points will be. I write down dialogue that comes to me. I always have scratch paper nearby because I’m forever writing down ideas. By the middle of the book, I have the second half pretty much planned out, and I know how it’s going to end. Of course, sometimes, the characters have ideas of their own, and throw me off course, but it’s usually better than my original plan anyway, so I go with it. ;-)

What gave you the idea for the With Me in Seattle series?

Kristen:  I live in the Seattle area, so it seemed like a no-brainer to set a story here. I originally just planned to write Come Away With Me as a stand-alone, but then I met Jules and I knew she needed a book too. THEN, I discovered she had all those sexy brothers, and Luke has sexy siblings, and it just kind of took on a life of its own. So, now we’re up to 7 full length novels and a novella. Whew! LOL

What is your favorite part of the day?

Kristen:  Any part that includes coffee or wine.

I think we might be long-lost sisters. *nods*  Who is your favorite fictional man of all time—either one of your own or anyone else’s.

Kristen:  That’s soooo hard! Hmm… well, I have a soft spot for Christian Gray. BUT, my all-time favorite hero is Nora Robert’s Roarke in her In Death series. God that man does things to me.  And, of course, I’m always completely in love with the hero I’m currently writing about. I have to be so you all love him too!

I’ve never read the In Death series, but I know what I’ll be adding to my TBR pile now.  Okay—and here are some quick fun questions:

Bath or shower?  Shower

Rain or shine? Shine

Heels or flats? Heels

Chocolate or fruity? Chocolate, baby!

Toast or bagel?  Bagel

THANK YOU so much for being here today.  I LOVE your work and you too.  (Folks, you aren’t going to find a nicer person than Kristen).  I’m looking forward to meeting up with you in Vegas!  (Are you bringing bail money or should I?)

NO, THANK YOU!! Seriously! This was great fun! And congratulations on your upcoming book, If You Stay. I absolutely adored it!! I can’t wait to squish the heck out of you in Vegas. I think, to be on the safe side, we should both bring that bail money. There’s no one in the world I’d rather have as my cell-mate! Ha! xo

Haha.  You might be right. We should BOTH bring bail money.  hehe.

Now, folks.  Kristen has given me an excerpt from her latest With Me In Seattle book, Fight With Me.  I so love Nate, and I know you will too!  Check it out!  (**Disclaimer** Fight With Me is for mature readers as it contains mature content)

Fight With Me

“What is this?”  I scoot closer to him and can’t help but run my
fingers down his arm.
“A tattoo.”  A smile tickles his lips and I smile back at him.
“Does it go all the way up your arm?”
“Yes.  It’s a sleeve.”
Oh my God, it’s sexy.  It looks tribal, and it swirls around his
forearm, from just above his wrist, disappearing under his shirt.
“So, my conservative-looking, suit-wearing boss has a tattoo and has
his penis pierced?” I ask with a smile.
Nate laughs and takes another pull on his beer.  “Yes.  You didn’t
seem to mind the piercing, if memory serves correctly.”
And just like that my panties are soaked and I am on fire.  No, I
didn’t mind at all.
“No, I don’t mind it.”  I smirk.  “I just didn’t expect it.  How long
have you had this?”  I run my finger down his arm again, and Nate
grabs my hand and kisses it, then links his fingers with mine and
rests them in his lap.
“Since my early twenties.”
“Were you a bad boy?” I ask, teasing him.
“Oh, I think I still am on occasion.”  He’s grinning, a full out grin,
and it just takes my breath away.
“You don’t smile enough,” I murmur.
“I don’t?”
“No, you have a great smile.”
“Thank you.  Want to know a secret?”
“Definitely.”
Nate’s still grinning, and he has an edgy, bad boy sparkle in his sexy
gray eyes.  He props his gorgeous feet on the ottoman in front of him,
crossing them at the ankle.
“Most of my front teeth are fake.”
“What?  Why?”
“Because they got knocked out.”
“Oh my God!  Were you in an accident?”  What the hell happened to him?
Nate laughs, and I’m completely confused.
“No, I used to fight.”
“Fight with whom?”
“With other guys who signed up for it.”
“I’m lost.”  I’m frowning at him.  What the hell is he talking about?
“I used to be a UFC fighter, Julianne.”  He’s still smiling, delighted
with himself.
“You do MMA?” I ask.  I shouldn’t be surprised, that’s exactly the
kind of body he has.
“You know Mixed Martial Arts?” He asks, his eyebrows raised almost to
his hairline.
“Nate, I have four older brothers and a father.  Not only did they all
teach me how to protect myself, they made me sit and watch that crap
or play it on the xBox all the damn time.  It’s much to their dismay
that I wear makeup and love pink.”
“So, you’re a badass, Miss Montgomery?”
“I am, Mr. McKenna.”
“Wanna prove it?”  He’s smiling again, delighted with me, and I’m
smiling back at him.  Who knew sitting and talking with Nate could be
so easy?
And who knew we’d have so much in common?
“Right now?”
“No, tomorrow.  Come to the gym with me.”
“I don’t know,” I shake my head.  “I might really hurt that pretty
face of yours.”
“You think my face is pretty?” He kisses my knuckles, one by one, then
leans over and kisses my cheek.
“You know your face is pretty.”
“I know your face is pretty.”
“It’s just a face,” I respond and shrug.  I have always received a lot
of attention because of my face, and my body.  It’s just genetics.
Nate narrows his eyes at me, his mouth forming a hard line.
“Julianne, your beautiful face is only out matched by what’s inside
you.”
What the fuck?  No one, no man anyway, has ever said anything about
what’s inside me.  Unless he was referring to his dick.
I gasp and feel my eyes go wide.  This is why I’m drawn to him.  He
completely throws me off kilter.
“Well, aren’t you the charmer?” I ask, trying desperately to lighten the mood.
Nate smiles again.  “So, are you coming with me or not?”
“If you think you can take me, sure, I’ll come with you.”
“Did you bring workout clothes?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
“So…” I look around his beautiful apartment.  “Did you decorate this yourself?”
Nate laughs and I feel the pull in my belly.  I love his laugh.  “No.”
“It suits you.”
“You think?” he raises an eyebrow and looks around at his beautiful home.
“Yeah, it’s masculine, but inviting, and comfortable.  And the kitchen
is sexy as hell.”
“Sexy, suits me, does it?” He asks and kisses my knuckles again,
sending shivers down my back.
I shrug and raise an eyebrow.  “You have your moments.”
“Well, speaking of my sexy kitchen,” Nate rises gracefully from the
couch and pulls me with him.  “How would you like some dessert?”
“Dessert?” I echo, lamely.  Watching him walk is making me crazy.
He’s so graceful; he clearly takes care of that body.  I can’t wait to
see what he can do at the gym tomorrow.
“I have chocolate cheesecake.”  He smiles back at me and I gasp.
“That’s my favorite.”
“I know.”
“How do you know?”
“Because at every business dinner you always order it for dessert.”
He motions for me to sit on a stool at the breakfast bar and pulls the
cheesecake out of the fridge.
He pays attention to what I order at dinner?
“So I was a bit of a foregone conclusion tonight then?”  I cock my
head to the side and smile sassily at him and can’t help but enjoy
watching him squirm.
“No, nothing you do is expected, Julianne, but I was hopeful, and
prepared, just in case.”  He cuts the cake and pulls two white dessert
plates out of a beautiful dark mahogany cabinet.  He joins me and we
dig in.
“Oh, Sweet Jesus, that’s good.”  I lick my fork and close my eyes.
Diving back in for a second bite, I notice that Nate isn’t moving.
“What’s wrong?”
“You are so sexy.”  His eyes are burning with lust, and my body starts
to hum under his hot gaze.
“I love chocolate,” I murmur and take another bite. “It’s my vice.  I
don’t drink much, I’m not big on junk food, but chocolate is not safe
from me.  If you don’t hide that cake, I’ll have it polished off by
morning.”

Contest winner and a glimpse of Fisher Amelie’s VAIN

14 Jan

Happy Monday!!

Okay, so last week, I ran a Name Your Vice contest. And OHMYGOSH! I got so many pictures of vices in my email! It was so hard to choose! But! I chose one last night. And I chose her because she took it to a dirty level.

Get your mind out of the gutters! Haha. Becky N. is the winner… because she’s not afraid to get dirty.   To de-stress, she takes her four-wheeler out on the weekends for good quality family time.  I love it!

Becky N

There were so many good entries, though. I  loved them all!  Thank you for playing.  I’ll announce this week’s contest tomorrow.  I can’t wait!!
Okay.  Also,  my dear friend Fisher Amelie released a fabulous new book a while back, VAIN.  I read it and it is AMAZE-BALLS.  It’s my new favorite Fisher Amelie book!

The Haunting Season by Michello Muto

24 Dec

Merry Christmas Eve!

Michelle Muto just released her newest book, The Haunting Season.  I was lucky enough to read an ARC and I can tell you that like anything else she writes, it’s riveting.  :)

Check it out:

Haunting Season

New Adult/Horror Recommended for readers 17+

Be careful what you let in…

Siler House has stood silent beneath Savannah’s moss-draped oaks for decades. Notoriously haunted, it has remained empty until college-bound Jess Perry and three of her peers gather to take part in a month-long study on the paranormal. Jess, who talks to ghosts, quickly bonds with her fellow test subjects. One is a girl possessed. Another just wants to forget. The third is a guy who really knows how to turn up the August heat, not to mention Jess’s heart rate…when he’s not resurrecting the dead.

The study soon turns into something far more sinister when they discover that Siler House and the dark forces within are determined to keep them forever. In order to escape, Jess and the others will have to open themselves up to the true horror of Siler House and channel the very evil that has welcomed them all.

Atone by Sarah Ross

22 Dec

Sarah M. Ross, the amazingly sweet author of Awaken and Avenge, has released the third book in this series, ATONE. This novella is available at Amazon, and Smashwords.  (Will be available on Barnes and Noble shortly).  This sounds fascinating and I can’t wait to check it out. Take a look:

Atone, Sarah Ross

Book Synopsis:

Before there was Awaken, before there was “Lucy and Max”, there was just Max. And he had some issues.

A lot of issues.

Max Kensington ‘s death haunted him for years. The guilt of his sins tormented him. Unable to let go, he was sure he’d never be able to atone for all of them. But that didn’t stop him from trying.

When his reason for being is suddenly thrust back into his life, he vows to protect her at all costs. He’ll do whatever it takes to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. And this time, he’ll fight to the bitter end to capture the one thing that has alluded him—happiness.

Excerpt:

My fingers finally got the knob to turn. I opened the door and stepped inside, holding my breath. I pulled the curtain back, but kept my eyes closed for a moment longer. I could hear a hiss of air being pushed and knew she was probably on a ventilator. The knowledge made my heart clench, but hearing the steady beep of her heart monitor—knowing it was strong and constant—helped ease it a little.

I took a deep breath. Bitter iodine and antiseptic swirled in my nose, but underneath it was another scent. Soft lilac emanated around me, and though it was faint, it overtook everything else. It was her. The beautiful, flowery aroma somehow clung to her and caressed my senses, making my heart pound in my chest.

I opened my eyes and took my first look at her. If I had a thousand books filled with a thousand pages each, it would still not be enough to describe how beautiful she was. I knew that she was broken, bloody, and bruised, but I didn’t see any of that. All I saw was perfection. I took a few steps forward and reached my hand forward. My fingertips gently grazed her soft, creamy skin as I brushed her hair out of her face.

As my fingers grazed her skin, a sizzle of electricity passed between us. Her monitors beeped like crazy, letting me know that even in this state, she was just as affected by me as I was by her. I pulled back, double checking that she was alright and I wasn’t inadvertently hurting her. After all, she was in a very precarious state right now and I couldn’t risk anything happening to her. After a few moments, the monitors resumed their steady rhythm and I tried again, this time taking her tiny, delicate fingers in my own.

Her eyes fluttered behind their closed lids. I hoped she was having good dreams. I pulled up a chair and sat down next to her, leaning in to whisper in her ear. “I can’t believe I found you. I didn’t even know I’d lost you, and yet here you are. But I promise you this, I’m never leaving you again. So just rest now; let your body heal. We’ll be together very soon.” I brushed my lips against her temple, inhaling her sweet lilac smell as I did.

A quiet knock at the door drew my eyes away from her, but not my hands. They refused to let her go. “You guys can come in,” I whispered. I wasn’t sure why I was whispering; I knew it wouldn’t wake her, but it just seemed like I should.

James pulled back the curtain, allowing access for Cassie and Adam to slip in around him. James crossed the room, carrying a thick three-ring binder in his hands.  That binder held the key to unlocking the mystery of who this woman was—I still didn’t even know her name, but I yearned to know everything about her. What was she like? Where was she from? What happened to her? I wanted to know it all.

$1.99 for ebook

Paperbacks will not be available for this novella

About the Author:

Sarah Ross

I started my obsession with reading at an early age, getting in trouble for sneaking BabySitter Club and Nancy Drew books into math class in elementary school. I would read any fiction book I could get my hands on. I knew it was an addiction when instead of grounding me from TV or music, my mom would take away my books as punishment (The Horror!). My love of all things paranormal was inspired by my good friend Laurie, who convinced me that books with vampires, witches, and all things shifter were amazing. After a little reluctance, I gave it a shot with the Sookie Stackhouse books, realized she was right, and the rest was history.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with my degree in English, and taught 8th graders to love reading as much as I do for several years. I will always be a proud member of the Steelers Nation, but I couldn’t take the cold and moved my frozen tush to Florida where I now live with my family and two cats. You will find me now with my trusty Kindle in hand and toes in the sand!

Glimpse at Ten Tiny Breaths by KA Tucker and a first-look at my next book!

19 Dec

Hey everyone!

Holy cow!  Can you believe there’s only six days until Christmas??  And me without my shopping done. Sigh.

I wanted to share a couple of things with you today– so excited about both!

First, my awesome friend K.A. Tucker just released an amazing book.  I haven’t read it entirely yet because I’ve been buried in my writing cave, but I’ve looked through it- and it looks amazing.  It must be- because as of this post, it is ranked at #73 on Amazon.  That’s HUGE.   Check it out….

Ten Tiny Breaths

TEN TINY BREATHS Synopsis:

Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.

But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

**Warning – This is a Mature YA/New Adult book. Contains sex and violence**

About the Author:

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.

I had the pleasure of getting to know K.A. at the Decatur book festival this summer and she is truly an amazing person- hilarious and sweet.  You should definitely look her up and get to know her.  You won’t regret it!

Trailer to Fisher Amelie’s VAIN!!

15 Nov

So, my awesomely amazing friend, Fisher Amelie, is releasing a new book soon.

Fisher’s books are always wonderful– ethereal writing, perfect covers and amazing trailers.  Check it out!

If you’re looking for a story about a good, humble girl, who’s been hurt by someone she thought she could trust, only to find out she’s not as vulnerable as she thought she was and discovers an empowering side of herself that falls in love with the guy who helps her find that self, blah, blah, blah…then you’re gonna’ hate my story.

Because mine is not the story you read every time you bend back the cover of the latest trend novel. It’s not the “I can do anything, now that I’ve found you/I’m misunderstood but one day you’ll find me irresistible because of it” tale. Why? Because, if I was being honest with you, I’m a complete witch. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a friend using, drug abusing, sex addict from Los Angeles. I’m every girlfriend’s worst nightmare and every boy’s fantasy.

I’m Sophie Price…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most envied girl to the girl no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

“Hold me tighter,” I whispered against his teeth. He clutched me closer yet not tight enough. “More,” I demanded.
He drew me firmer against him and I felt every ridge of his body.
“Is that close enough?” he laughed into my throat.
“Perfect,” I told him.
