Happy Friday, Y’all!
Today on the YA Indie Carnival, we’re discussing our recipes for plot. Which is fascinating and super-scientific…. for some writers.
As you might guess, it’s not that scientific for me.
Some writers have actual formulas for their plots, which is awesome. They know that they want one part ___ + two parts _____ to = some screams and tears. I don’t do that. Since I’m a pantser (I fly by the seat of my pants with my stories), I don’t write out a formula.
But. I have a feeling, yes, a feeling, what I need to include for my plot-line to be good. Since I’ve been an avid reader since first grade, I’ve read many, many books over the years- stacks and stacks. This has given me a feeling for what works and what doesn’t.
My personal plot arsenal contains a lot of twists. I love a good twist- it’s my favorite aspect of my books. I also like to write books that make my readers feel something- whether it makes their heart flutter from romance, weep from sadness or smile from something really happy. I want people to feel something. I very much write from the gut. It’s hard to explain.
So…. basically, I can’t share a formula or even a recipe for my plot, because I don’t have one. When I start writing a book, I know what kind of feel I want the book to have and I work from there.
You should definitely check out some of my friends, though- for their insight on this topic. I know they’ll have some great recipes!
Hope you have a great weekend!

Yay for pantsing
There’s nothing wrong with making it up as you go. Creativity is a wild, organic thing and can’t always be controlled. It speaks to different people in different ways. Thanks for sharing your process!
P.S. – Saw the cover for Soul Kissed! Looks fantastic!
The cool thing about what we do is we’ve been so surrounded by stories our whole lives (books, movies, tv) we know what goes into great storytelling, allowing for organic writing. I think pantsing is the bravest form of writing (you can tell I’m a plotter, can’t you?) and I always say go with what works for your passion.
Yeah. I like that you don’t write your recipes down, it’s about going with your gut:) YAY! Love the post:) Can’t wait for your tour!
